My 16th piece in my “Alligators in Art” series based off of the iconic Goya painting “Saturn Devouring His Son”. The reference painting is such a dark yet intriguing image, I wanted to take that recognizable scene and completely transform it into something super Florida while also taking the opportunity to do something ridiculously fun in the process.

I put a lot of love and laughter into this painting…I lost count of how many times I took a step back to look at the piece & utter the phrase “this is so stupid😅”& then burst into laughter as l gazed upon the crazed face of the old gator with orange juice dripping down from its jaws clutching the bag of oranges. 🐊🍊This piece was created with acrylics and was painted on reclaimed wood

Side note: For YEARS, I thought this painting by Goya was called “Saturn eating Apollo” or something similar to that…I swore the person being eaten was Apollo…it turns out I was very wrong about the title AND the son being devoured, so I chose to make the oranges on the bag be packaged in “Apollo” Beach ,FL…in case you saw that detail and were wondering😅 I did that little detail just for me but wanted to share 😁
