The original piece this print is made from for a very important project with The Tampa Bay Discovery Center’s Grown in the gulf event . It’s all about sustainability, and education about our reefs. My piece was. made from repurposed pallet wood and an up cycled frame to go along with the message of sustainability and how we can protect our reefs so all can thrive. I went with the theme of lionfish, a deadly non-native predator of our coral reefs. This fish is killing lots of native species beneficial & necessary to our reefs, and they can spawn very rapidly . With barely any predators able to eat them, we have learned that we are able to fish and use these invasive species as a sustainable food source. They are hard to capture, however it is doable with awareness being made about it. The idea of the skull floating within the pattern of the fish seemed all but fitting for this killing machine.
