“Y.O.L.T. (You only live twice)” mixed media zombie bust original art

“Y.O.L.T. (You only live twice)” is very different from what I’m most known for, I created this mixed media piece back in 2013-14 when I was volunteering working at local haunted houses . It was during this time that I repurposed this half mannequin torso I was given into something very different than when it was gifted to me. Using some of those skills I had learned doing FX makeup ,I applied it to this piece to create the skin tears you see on the piece.

I went with blue tones to give the zombie bust an unexpected look, I was really inspired by the blue tones Tim Burton used for Emily in The Corpse Bride, however I wanted to give more of a punk rock feel like the zombies in The Return of the Living Dead….and that’s how Y.O.L.T was born, actually re-born is more fitting 😅

I think the most challenging part of this piece was after spending so much time painting the tattoos on, was having the confidence to tear apart what had just created to give the illusion of realistic skin tears/hanging flesh…however after the he first tear, I could see the finished piece blossoming into fruition & glad I could trust my gut & the process in the end .
