I try to keep things lighthearted, however recently hearing about the situation our Florida state parks have been facing on top of the already depleting homes for our wildlife, I felt like I needed to make my voice heard...

I wanted to make something that would hopefully grab people’s attention and start those discussions about how the wildlife is affected by the development of so many Florida landscapes. Just recently in the past years the gopher tortoise was taken off of the endangered species list, making it that much easier for developers to literally bulldoze them, turning their homes into tombs….all for more golf courses and housing projects when there are 1000’s of acres that have already been developed and could be repurposed. We don’t need more concrete laid heating up these already scorching temperatures. They provide shelter & homes for many Florida creatures with their burrows, mother nature made them & put them here for a reason!

I used the Gadsden flag as my reference image for this digital design because I wanted something instantly recognizable , however I know that in today’s climate its meaning can be considered extreme…originally this was a flag used to represent standing against oppression, nowadays it has a different meaning to most, and more often than not negative stereotypes…I hope that with this design, people will see that I am using it as a tool to help speak up for the voiceless and not for negativity. I can’t express how much joy it brings me getting the opportunity to experience these gentle creatures in the wild here in Florida, seeing them out in the wild makes my heart so happy & full. They’ve been here way longer than us, and I hope they are able to be better protected so they can be here for as long as possible.
