"Gatorpoliticus child" 20"x24" original painting

The piece is 20”x24” (closer it 24”x28” in this big gorgeous antique up-cycled frame, and it was created with acrylic paint on wood …so it’s got a little bit of weight to it

This is my 5th piece in my Dalí inspired series, with another currently on the way. This painting was inspired by Dalí’s “Geopoliticus Child Watching the Birth of the New Man”. This is a little different from my norm of what most know me for…I honestly didn’t start painting cuter fun things until 2022, I was much more of a darker themed , edgy artist…I was very unhappy in my life, and reflected in a lot of the darker themes in my work.

This Dali painting is a very dark & muted piece, so I felt I needed to match that aesthetic. I kept re-envisioning this painting with a gator egg being watched over like a fierce protective mother gator would . The continents have underlining veins slightly peeking through , adding to the surrealistic appearance of this Florida fever dream. I replaced the two figures from the original with ants as the witnesses of this birth , a common theme in Dalí’s work .

There are definitely sinister elements at play in this piece, I try to keep most of my work light…however much of the darkness and underlying sinister tones are heavily influenced by the political climate we live in currently, where it feels like something malevolent is lurking and watching over the world being “protective” , and ironically as a big guy that can hold my own…I feel anything but safe in the world I exist in currently.
